Join us for the Government Relations/Economic Development Committee meeting. The focus and goal of this committee is to discuss our concerns about business related issues directly with the representatives of our elected officials. This committee meets at noon on the first Wednesday of each month; all are welcome and no RSVP is necessary.

GRC Meeting Updates – February 6, 2013

Congresswoman Julia Brownley's Office:
Andrew Postal reports that new offices are currently being opening at 223 E Thousand Oaks Blvd, Suite 411. A new location in Oxnard will also be ready to open within the next coming weeks. For more information contact Congresswoman Julia Brownley's Office at 805-617-5260.

State Senate Fran Pavley's Office:
Marie Lakin citied that Senator Pavley and Assembly Member Jeff Gorell are working across the aisle on a bill pertaining to Child Safety in California. Senator Pavley is also examining the issue of water bonds and the valuable resource that they play in the state.

Assembly Member Jeff Gorell:
According to Adam Haverstock, Jeff Gorell is pushing forward AB67, a bill that proposes a 7 year tuition freeze for colleges in California in order to stem the tide of continual increases of tuition over the last few years. A pro-business effort known as the Gold Team is also working to pass permits with the FAA that will make Ventura County attractive to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) industries and businesses. Ventura County Supervisor Peter Foy's Office:
Chad Ball announced that the county will be reexamining trash and collection fees this March. A Renaissance Festival known as the Nottingham Festival is set to come to Moorpark in 2014. This event is sure to be good for local businesses and attracts people from all over the country.

City of Moorpark David Moe:
David Moe announced that a new Hazard Mitigation Plan has been created for the City of Moorpark. The VC Alert system has been updated to contact 5 phone numbers per account with critical safety issues.

Civilian Applications of UAVs – A California Perspective

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) spending is expected to almost double
over the next decade, from annual worldwide expenditures of $6.6 billion to $11.4 billion, totaling more than $89 billion over the next ten years.

Congress has directed the FAA to create six testing sites and a UAV
certification plan by 2015. California is expected to earn a test site.
